Handmade Hamburgers

Serves 4-6

Ingredients

1 lb (454 g) Lean ground beef

⅓ Cup (80 mL) Oatmeal, ground to a powder in the food processor

¾ tsp (4 mL) Salt

¼ tsp (1 mL) Ground black pepper

1 small Onion, minced

¼ lb (100 g) Mushrooms, finely minced (optional)

6-8 Whole wheat hamburger buns or English muffins

6-8 leaves Lettuce

1 Tomato, sliced

Directions

Note: Wash all produce well.

  1. In a bowl, combine the beef, ground oatmeal, salt, pepper, minced onions and optional minced mushrooms. Use your hands to combine thoroughly.

  2. Form the mixture into 6-8 patties.

  3. Heat a large heavy frying pan on medium-high heat. Cook the patties, in batches if necessary, flipping once, until no longer pink in the middle.

  4. Place in the buns with lettuce, tomato, and any toppings.
