Ingredients

  • 1 loaf crusty bread

  • 3 Tbsp (45 mL) Olive oil

  • 2 Tbsp (30 mL) Butter, melted

  • 1 tsp (5 mL) Garlic powder

  • 1 tsp (5 mL) Italian seasoning

  • ½ (2.5 mL) Salt

  • ¼ tsp (1.2 mL) Black pepper, ground

Tip: This recipe is a great way to use bread that is going stale.

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.

  2. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

  3. Cut the loaf of bread into cubes and place in a large bowl.

  4. Drizzle the bread cubes with olive oil and melted butter and sprinkle the garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper over the bread.

  5. Toss until all of the bread cubes are well coated.

  6. Spread the bread cubes onto the prepared baking sheet, making sure the bread cubes are in an even layer and not touching.

  7. Bake for 12 to 20 minutes, tossing halfway through, or until the croutons are golden brown. Time will depend on the thickness of your bread and your oven.

  8. Remove from the oven and let cool completely.

  9. Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
